You’re back from the holiday season, It's out with the old, and in with the new. And that means it’s time to do some News Years SEO Housekeeping on your site…
Work on the basics
🟡 Optimise Your Title Tags and Meta Descriptions
Title tags and meta descriptions are the snippets of text that appear in search results and provide a brief overview of your page's content. Ensure your title tags are concise, and informative, and include relevant keywords for that page. Similarly, write short, compelling meta descriptions that will appear when your site comes up in Google to entice your potential customers to click on your result.
🟡 Improve Page Load Speed:
Website speed is a crucial ranking factor, particularly for Google. Use Google PageSpeed Insights to identify and address any issues that may slow down your website. Usually, it’s images which are not optimised, so get them compressed. Over and above that get your developers or hosting company to minify code, optimise the server, and consider using a content delivery network (CDN) to improve image load times if it’s still slow.
🟡 Create Some New High-Quality Content:
Valuable, informative, and engaging content is the foundation of effective SEO. Create a couple of new articles or blog posts, write content that provides solutions to your target audience's problems. Refresh the descriptions on the products that aren’t ranking as well as others. Use keywords naturally throughout your content, but avoid using them too much, we call that keyword stuffing and Google hates this!
🟡 Build Backlinks:
Backlinks from reputable companies and websites are a powerful signal to search engines that your website is credible and authoritative. Reach out to industry influencers, participate in guest blogging opportunities, and create shareable content to attract backlinks.
🟡 Optimise for Mobile:
It’s likely that most of your users and customers will be viewing your site from a mobile device, therefore it's essential to ensure your website is mobile-friendly. Ask family and friends to check out your site on their different devices, they will find things that you don’t. And any problems they find, fix them!
🟡 Fix Broken Links:
Broken links not only frustrate users but can also harm your SEO. Regularly check your website for broken links and redirect them to the correct relevant pages or remove the link altogether.
These are basic things, but by implementing this SEO housekeeping, you can significantly improve your website's ranking and drive more organic traffic.
But please remember that SEO is an ongoing process, and consistency is key. It’s not just something you should do every few months. By regularly keeping up with the points above, you can maintain a strong online presence and achieve long-term SEO success.
