BBC Weather Glitch - Are We Really Going to be Blown Away by the Strongest Hurricane Ever?

Image

Batten Down the Hatches!

According to the BBC weather app, the whole of the UK will suffer from Hurricane winds of nearly 15000mph for the next two days, that's nearly 70 times worse than the strongest hurricane ever recorded!

Of course, if you're waking up to this news, it's fine!

According to the BBC news this morning, they are just laughing it off as a 'glitch'...

But is it a laughing matter? How many people would wake up this morning worrying (albeit probably briefly) about the upcoming hurricane coming our way? Or the systems that utilise the BBC API, which may automatically alert staff or close down services?

Of course, it's just a simple gitch, but we do indirectly pay for this information. Why isn't there a system to quickly override or provide a message on the home screen, like when there's a weather warning?

Badly designed data integrations, yes... Badly designed app to blindly display this information, yes... Glitch, yes... Laughing matter? In my opinion, not really...

I expect these systems to work or fail gracefully, is that just me?
